Google it seems can do little wrong, this is clearly illustrated by the strength of their Android mobile operating system and today we celebrate as Google release the next generation of Androids to the world in the form of Gingerbread Android 2.3 ( catchy! ) So whats all the hype about then? Well its just an evolution really but it is kinda great when you relise that your phone (mobile computer in hand) will receive an updated operating system free of charge – thats one of the big reasons Android is a big hit.
Looking at the new Gingerbread user interface here we can see Google have gone for a more contrasted almost ‘neon’ look and i love it, but then i would have probably loved it if they went for monochrome! that is to say i am most certainly a big fan of the whole Google Android experience. Android is the highlight of the computer business for me right now and im sure lots of people feel the same way.
Notice the orange highlights here? is that a gingerbread theme? no actually Android has always had orange highlights since back in the days of the G1, HTC changed their sense build to green but the orange flavor is a genuine Google theme. Looking at the keyboard above Google have tried to clean up the u.i. a bit bringing Android bang up to date, not that it was far behind the times in any way !
Other platform advances include NFC ‘near field communication’ which i dont yet understand but it sounds like ‘push to talk’ (old hat) and there are advances in internet telephony which seems a likely path for google to take as the king of the internet, only problen i see in the long run is mobile phone opperators loosing huge sums of money as people use the internet to call people instead of the usual gsm networks, i guess that means the data packages will go up in price !
Above is the Samsung Nexus-S the first device to offer Googles Android 2.3 Gingerbread build from stock, available in a few weeks time if you cant wait for an XDA-Devs build for your current Android device.
