Increasing the real estate of screen space on a mobile device can only be a good thing right? Well for the most part it certainly is, one of the best ways that you can do this with an android device is with ‘Lcd Density Changer’ available from the Android Market, you need to make sure you have a rooted phone first but im pretty sure if your gonna mess about with lcd density settings your going to have already rooted your phone anyway.
As i have covered the ‘Lcd Density ‘ issue before i thought it may be time to give it a bash on an older device and todays guest is the lovely little HTC Tattoo, with a screen res of just 240×320 pixels at 2.8 inches diagonal its not a big screen in any sense of the word, so with a custom Android rom of the Froyo 2.2 type and the relevant density changing software installed i set about shrinking the stuff on the screen.
Looks great, one other thing i should add is that the Rom used here is based on **CYANOGEN** rom 6 and as such comes pre loaded with **ADWLauncher , the nice thing about custom launcher apps like ADW is the way you can change the ammount of rows and columns, in this case i went for 5×5 which is only 1 more than the stock android 4×4 homescreen layout but on a screen this size even with Lcd density set to 90ppi you cant expect to fit too much more than HTC intended.
Ahh yes, now looking more closely at the lcd panel you can see the problem, everything is a little too pixelated and text can be hard to read, its still a minor fault though and i wouldnt let it stop me using this set up as my daily driver, if you are looking to try this on your phone and understand that any damages are your own responsibility I thoroughly recoment trying Lcd Density Changer, try setting it to 90~ on the Tattoo, other devices are completely different but you will find your way around.
