HTC really gave me a buzz with every single device release, right back from their O2-XDA days ( htc wallaby ) HTC always innovated and showed the other manufacturers how it should be done, quality of build, design, user interface, and feature set never dissapoint with a HTC device. But that was right up until this years Mobile World Congress in Barcelona where HTC released the same devices they released last year but mixed up the outer shells with devices from 2 years previous, what on earth is going on?
As you can see the Desire-s is just like the HTC Desire mk1 but with added tweaks and an outer shell taken from the design of the original ‘Touch-HD’ Windows Phone. Its not that the new ‘S’ line up are not good devices but they are just too similar in specs and looks to last years releases which were ground breaking, so has HTC run out of innovation?
One thought is that HTC may have something huge on the drawing board that will blow us all so far away that it will elevate HTC above the whole Apple – Android -Nokia – Microsoft - etc -etc, eco system, it would take a huge development though like some sort of super device with every imaginable feature and a well customised build of Linux running at the core, HTC are positioned well in the market to achieve such a radical move but do they have the guts and is their corporate level imaginative enough to allow their creative teams to do this? All but a dream im afraid but one can wish…
