Motorola or Google ?

Xoom owners outside of the US will no doubt be checking daily to see if the latest Android build has been made available to download over the air. Googles ‘Honeycomb’ variant of Android has moved on from version 3.0 up to 3.1 – a small update in terms of numbers but a very much needed update in practice as it offers better multi tasking, better widget control and improvements to the speed of the operating system in general.

All sounds great but as i said Xoom owners outside the US are checking daily for the update because its only US Xoomers that have actually received the update, everyone else seems to be waiting and waiting and more waiting !!

So who is responsible for the wait? is it Motorola that just cant get their act together and offer the whole world of their customer base the update they deserve as buyers of the ‘first ever’ Google endorsed Tablet?  or is the delay a result of Googles beleif that version 3.1 is not yet suitable for public consumption ? Oh yeah – and when will the update finally get to us? does anyone know the answer?

Honestly there is no single answer to this issue but news that suggests Google are having trouble with 3.1 has surfaced in this article HERE .The article at unwiredview.com is aimed at the Samsung Galaxy tablets but it doesnt take a giant leap to realize that if Google are experiencing difficulties with 3.1 on the Samsung devices then our Xooms could well be suffering from the same conditions, if all this supposition is accurate then it seems August will be the month the rest of the world can expect to find their Honeycomb update.

Just a few moments ago Motorola sent me a message via Twitter that gives further credibility to the claim that Google are the guilty party in holding out on us , here is the tweet – oh and the link shown re-directs HERE

Its no guarantee of a release date but at least Motorola have taken a little time to recognise the situation and respond.

“Andy Rubin holds the Motorola Xoom in hand, the first ever officialy recognized Google Android tablet device. We need to see the 3.1 update soon if we are to trust in Googles hard line on official Android devices and their ‘on time’ update paths”.
